Add to favourites Back to the A-Z list Stanton Vale Special School Stanton Vale is an all age special school located in Long Eaton, working with students primarily from the south east of Derbyshire but also from Derby City, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire. Children as young as two can join our specialist nursery and as they grow and develop they move through the school staying with us until they are nineteen. The children and young people who come to us have a range of needs and abilities but are primarily categorised as Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) or Complex Learning Difficulties (CLD / PMLD). However, we try not to talk about disability, as we focus on ability. Our most complex children benefit from specialist sensory areas in each classroom and learn through a very experiential curriculum. Our more able students spend time working on the key skills of functional literacy and maths as well as work that builds on their independence and self help skills. For all our students communication and motor / mobility skills taught through MOVE form a foundation stone that we build their learning around. Having a nurse on site as well as close links to Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy mean we are able to offer a rounded package that puts the child at the centre of learning.
